Last week I helped a friend start her decluttering process. We began with that drawer we all have in the kitchen where everything goes, which either doesn't have a home anywhere else, or we can't be bothered to put it in its right place! Here are some practical tips to help you get started...
Declutter one cupboard, one drawer, or one wardrobe - This makes the task more manageable in terms of disruption and time
2. Make sure you have enough bin bags and a plan to get unwanted items to the charity shop, and find out how to sell online (ebay, Marketplace, Vinted etc)
3. Make a space where you can put the entire contents of the cupboard, drawer, wardrobe - this will help you see what you've got
4. If it is a wardrobe you are decluttering, start but sorting into - clothing type, then colour, THEN go through your clothes deciding what can be upcycled, given to charity, sold or has lived a good life and now is ready for the bin!
5. Whatever space you are decluttering sort the contents into categories - spoons, scissors, plates, saucepans etc. This will quicken the decluttering process!
6. Take a photo of before and after - this will definitely keep the good feeling last longer and spur you on to keep the space decluttered and move on to the next decluttering task.
